There is no 'one size fits all' when it comes to your health.

There is no ‘one size fits all’ when it comes to health. With so many new diets and exercise trends out there it can be hard to know exactly how to look after yourself in the best possible way. Low carb, paleo, keto, plant based, anti-inflammatory, grain free, sugar free, fat free, de-toxes, fasting... all these different ways of eating. Which is right for you?

The truth is there is no one single right way to be healthy.

Every single body is different and has different needs. These needs can change throughout the year. In Winter our bodies need warming, nourishing foods, whereas in Summer lighter meals tend to be more appropriate.

For women, dietary needs can even change throughout the month, depending on the stage of the menstrual cycle. After the period, foods which nourish the blood can help the body rebuild after the loss of the menstrual blood.

That is why it is important to spend some time working out what is right for you, rather than simply jumping on the latest diet bandwagon.

The same goes for exercise. Different bodies have different needs. For some, gentle yoga may be useful for calming the mind and easing tight muscles. For others, the slow pace and quiet relaxation of yoga may feel restrictive. They may need high intensity cardio to feel energised. When attempting to lose weight, some people benefit from shorter bursts of interval training rather than spending prolonged periods working hard at cardio. Some endocrinological conditions actually worsen with heavy duty cardio, as it can be depleting.

What’s right for you might not be right for your best friend. What was right for you two years ago may not be right for you now. Listening to your body can help you choose the path which is right for you, right now.

Guidance from your practitioner can help steer you in the right direction. In Chinese medicine we also believe there is no one single right way.

There are many paths to good health.

By looking at the state of your health your practitioner can work with you to help you choose the right diet and exercise plan to help you achieve your health goals.
